On Kingsday the 27th of April we go all out with a big stage outside. And then there’s stand up comedy in the shape of Ken Parson’s Ironic Curtain Comedy Club, spoken word by Word Up and and open mic improv theatre jam by Improganga. While the above are all in English, our monthly pop- or pub-quiz is in Dutch.

One Hundred Years Of The Kelvinators, The Most Consistent Band Ever, alternatively known as The Best Band In The World, which is debatable, but they'll still win. Punk shenennigans and more from at least The Most Sympathetic Band In The World. They're awesome.
New album out now!

Rafael Kalil is a Brazilian cello player, with a couple of strings attached (yes, pun intended).
He plays 'from the hip', like a guitar, and his music is as remarkable as his posture; experimental, fun, and rooted in many musical traditions. But traditional, it is not.
This is the 3rd time he plays at CPC, we're always happy to have him.

Austin Miller’s interest in music emerged at a young age. Raised all-American on Springsteen, Petty, and piano lessons starting at 3 years old, there was rarely a moment when a radio wasn’t playing or a record wasn’t spinning. But it wasn’t until college that he began putting pen to paper, thanks to a week-long Dylan binge.
Today, those influences have been met with a short history of shows spanning 40 states and 13 countries. Miller exerts a worldliness beyond his 28 years -- not only in his confident croon, but also in his rambling rhythm and thoughtful guitar work.
Over the years, inspiration has continued to strike just like that original Dylan-fueled kick did: without warning, yet beautifully timed.
It’s the combination of lonely stretches of highway between gigs out west, or short amount of time at home before wanting to get back on the road, that these songs come to fruition. When he finds the time to reflect, it results in a certain nostalgic and refreshing take on the classic Americana from which he draws so much influence.
In comes “Engine”: his third and most ambitious album yet, on which Miller exudes his stories of love and loss in understated, calculated, and skillfully-crafted hooks that leave listeners with just the right taste of melancholy in their mouths.

Here we go again: a wholesome and fresh edition of our renowned standup night at CPC! Under supervision, or rather under attack from, the Man with the Plan, doctor Ken Parsons of the School Of Lulz Academy.

BeerWe have eight taps, two of which are reserved for our regular ale, the absolutely wonderful Weihenstephan pilsener, and one for the Hefe Weisse from the same Bavarian brewery, with a history of almost a thousand years the oldest official brewery in the world. We’re proud to be one of the few café’s in Holland serving this pilsener from draft.
The other taps contain mostly local beers, ranging from IPA’s to triples.

hard liquorIn our search for the right stuff we always go for quality. If that means avoiding the big factories, even better. Our tequila for example is 100% agave, we have a very honest Venezuelan rum and a Scottish peat whisky from Islay that will make you want to call your loved ones.

wineSo much to say, so little time. But we’ll try: we have two whites and two reds. Our organic housewines are a wonderful white blend from Spain, containing sauvignon blanc, verdejo and airen grapes, and a robust red tempranillo from the same country. Above the rim we have a more bodied and complex white pinot grigio and a very tempting sangiovese di Toscana, ripe with fruits, both, of course, from Italy. We also serve prosecco, and, perhaps surprisingly, a more than decent sweet white from France as well as an elegant Spanish rosé.

coffee & teaSince coffee is probably the most important commodity on the planet, after clean water and love, we treat this subject seriously. The beans are grown in Brazil by Bruno Souza, whom we met when he was in Amsterdam. They’re roasted in Noord, just across the water, by Kees Kraakman and his boys, a.k.a. Keppler. Dilmah is a family owned tea company from Sri-Lanka, producing some of the finest Ceylon tea’s in the world. A part of the proceeds go into projects for local farmers.

soft drinks & juiceWe’re living in exciting times when it comes to soda’s and juices; lots of small but passionate companies around Europe are creating pure and tasty alternatives for the usual suspects. Our cola is from Hamburg’s own Fritz-Kola, and it actually tastes better than you-know-what. Special shout out goes to Agroposta, a juice with all natural fruits and herbs, handpicked in a.o. Croatia. Yes, you read that right, and we’re not even kidding.
